Straw Market Day

A day to honor the woven straw bags, hats, baskets, and dolls that Bahamian women have crafted for generations from silver top palm and sisal. The Nassau Straw Market is the famous one on Bay Street, but the real artistry lives in the hands of women on Andros and Eleuthera who weave from childhood. Every tourist buys a palm rose, but locals know to look for the tight-plaited work that holds water.
