Quadrille Dance Day
Honoring the old-time partnered square dance that came through the British and took on a whole Bahamian flavor with the rake and scrape band backing it up. You can still catch quadrille nights at community halls on the Family Islands, where the elders know every figure and the young folks try to keep up. The skirts swirl, the caller shouts, and the accordion pulls you across the floor whether you know the steps or not.
