Junkanoo Summer Practice
The time of year when Junkanoo groups start their late-night practices in the shack, cutting paste, gluing costumes, and running through rhythms that will not be fully ready until December. If you walk past a Junkanoo shack on a June night, you will hear the drums warming up and see the younger members learning the steps from the veterans. The rush starts here, six months early, because that is how seriously Bahamians take this.
