Ruz el Nour
Deglet Nour, the finger of light, from Tolga and Biskra, the queen of dates and the gold of the Sahara. The date palm is the tree of life in the desert, providing food, shade, building material, and fiber. Deglet Nour dates are semi-dry, translucent, honey-sweet, and exported worldwide but sweetest at home, eaten fresh from the palm in the oases where they grow. The harvest is manual, the climbing is dangerous, and the skill of the date farmer is passed from father to son across generations. Algeria is one of the world's largest date producers, and the palm groves of the northern Sahara are among the most beautiful agricultural landscapes on earth.
