Ruz el Hamam

The public bathhouse where women gather weekly to steam, scrub, gossip, and examine potential brides for their sons. The hammam is spa, social club, and intelligence network all at once. The ritual is precise: enter the warm room, move to the hot room, let the steam open every pore, then the savon noir scrub that removes a layer of dead skin and a layer of worry. Women bring their own kessa glove, their black soap, their argan oil. The hammam is one of the few public spaces that belongs entirely to women during women's hours, and the conversations that happen here are the conversations that decide marriages, settle disputes, and transmit the oral history of the neighborhood.
