Ruz el Djemaa
The weekly souk that rotates between towns across the countryside, setting up on different days in different places so that the circuit covers every village within reach. Everything is sold here: olives, mattresses, livestock, wedding dresses, cassette tapes, live chickens, and plastic buckets. The souk is the calendar of the countryside, the social hub of the region, and the economic engine of informal trade. Women walk home with bags on their heads. Men negotiate over tea. Children steal dates from open sacks. The souk is civilization before the internet, and it still works.
